Abstract

The current study aims to investigate the relationship between religiosity, belief in a just world, and life satisfaction among older people living either with their families or independently within the region of Indonesia. It was hypothesized that there is a significant relationship between the study variables; furthermore, religiosity and belief in just world may predict life satisfaction in elderly people. Moreover, there is likely to be a significant gender difference in religiosity, belief in a just world (BJW), and life satisfaction (LS) among elderly people. A cross-sectional research design was employed for the study, and a purposive sampling technique was used to select participants living in intact families. Findings revealed that there was a significant positive relationship between personal and general belief in just world, personal belief in just world and life satisfaction; and between general belief in just world and life satisfaction. Furthermore, religiosity and personal belief in just world predicted life satisfaction in elderly people. A significant gender difference was found in personal beliefs in just world among older people. The study has provided meaningful insights to improve the quality of life of individuals in older age when there is almost no one to take care of them.
